I was introduced to Portnov Computer School accidentally. My friend decided to enroll and I joined him. I remember we came to school the first time and spoke to Olga. She asked me if I know what QA is. I had no idea at all. Not even a clue. It was less than a half year ago.
It’s been long 10 years since the last day I’ve studied, so I was a bit frightened if I can succeed. So, I decided to test myself and devoted most of my time to school. I had to drive 300 miles a day 3-4 times a week for 3 months, but it all paid off.
I went through at least 7 interviews after finishing the course and had no luck at all. Fellow students I studied with were getting internships, but not me. I was getting frustrated with myself, but finally, after a !phone interview! I was given an opportunity to join a pretty big and successful company which headquarters in San Mateo, as an intern. And it was a paid internship. After six weeks I received a raise.
I haven’t completed my internship yet, but I am very happy with where I am at now and do not regret a thing. The school lets you make the first and the most important step towards your future, then, you must strive for yourself. Study, work hard, be nice and friendly to people during the internship and you’ll succeed. All the hard/smart work pays off.
The knowledge I get each day during my internship is priceless and gives me a unique opportunity to build a career as a QA engineer.
I would like to thank Mikhail, Sophia, Yana, Olga, Marina (her BI and SQL classes helped me a lot, and all these OLAP’s, OLTP’s and Data Warehousing/Mining are not that scary and make a lot of sense when you put your hands on it.) I am very thankful to the entire staff of Portnov Computer School! I miss the school BIG TYME!
Don’t hesitate, put yourself to the test, become a Software Tester !
